Pension Link ▶ California

Image
Rapid development of Inland Empire communities? Consider The Pensions Link! Many residents in the Temescal Valley are perplexed about the constant growth of this area, including traffic congestion that plagues the valley. Some believe the growth explosion has much to do with the attempts by local cities, counties, and other public entities to meet unfunded mandates for public employee pensions. Development provides perpetual revenues. The following data collection may underscore this theory. The pension obligations for local and state officials (most certainly including the state higher educational system) is astronomical. In fact, a search on TRANSPARENT CALIFORNIA ▶ https://goo.gl/9EZ3TU ▶ finds more than 1,000 records of real, raw data that is most worthy of this archive. Who in the California university system is most thankful for the state's most liberal pension plans, see TRANSPARENT CALIFORNIA? ▶ https://goo.gl/9EZ3TU If you live in the Inland Empire of Southern Ca...

Transparent ▶ California

Image
Inspection of state government records like voter rolls county by county is a dicey matter. One would think that the most transparent practice in this regard might be the largest state, California, but that is obviously not the case. Even though the over-arching theme of our #ALTACITIES blogs is #HOA private governance, there remain a host of other #transparency concerns for the real cities of California, details that need public inspection beyond the confines of the typical common interest development, homeowners association or HOA. FEMA ▶ Social Current See

Image
Chances are the hashtag # FEMA is not an internet search you would normally conduct or follow, unless you have a disaster recovery matter to cover. And, in a related matter,  January 17, 1994  seems like a distant searchable date, but the day is memorable around the world and in particular for California as the occurrence of the devastating Northridge Earthquake .  For homeowners around the TRILOGY of neighborhoods in the Temescal Valley, the Northridge Quake may be a distant memory, but it is a harbinger of events that may follow.  Many authorities, including seismologists, are predicting that California is overdue for another Northridge-type quake.  Question is: When and where will this happen across our 163,696 square miles (423,970 km)? These questions are given some immediacy because, last week, on our Federal Capitol Hill, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) introduced the Disaster Assistance Support for Communities and Homeowners Act of 201...

Medicare, Medicare Reform

Image
More than one third of Americans are covered by either Medicare or Medicaid.  That's why the topic is more than passing interest to consumers and the politicians we vote into office.  As we know, every election cycle brings to the fore the topic of Medicare and Medicaid reform.  The current season is no different. CA rains will not solve HOA drought woes

Image
Here in early May, a rare cold front with rain is predicted to drift through Southern California during the next two days (May 7-8), but we will see if the predictions hold true. Often, these do not. Whatever happens, two days of rain will barely make a dent in the drought conditions that now plague the entire region. The drought will remain a topic for all of the state, particularly for HOAs, many of which continue to have policies that discourage, even prohibit water conservation by homeowners. The 'social current see' of the topic continues to tell the story of "water lust" by these associations, many of which don't mind tapping into a homeowners stash of green (meaning wallet) when those same homeowners may fail to keep their lawns as green as the HOA requires. CPK chief on CA drought

Image
For a long time, one of our favorite places to eat has been California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), a popular chain in this area, although we now have to drive to Orange County, Temecula, or Rancho Cucamonga if we are to enjoy their menu.  But this post is not really about that business, but the universal concern about the ongoing and never-ending California drought. TARP comes out from under cover

Image
No trivial matter: The USA financial crisis of 2008 (aka the "mortgage meltdown" ) The Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) became program of the United States government to purchase assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 3, 2008 . It was a component of the government's measures in 2008 to address the subprime mortgage crisis .
