Gatlinburg Reality ▶ SocialCurrentSee

"In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." https://t.co/N6NY0CLvY9 via @BrainyQuote — Mike Foxworth (@ALTALOMAN) April 27, 2017 Nobody buys a home, much less buys into a homeowner's association, with the expectation that the home will one day be destroyed by a natural or man-made disaster. But that reality is real world to thousands in the Smoky Mountain resort of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. ▶SEE STORY.  Perhaps this story is real for you or may become so one day.

What the Gatlinburg story explains well is that homeowners in HOAs may only escape the obligation to pay HOA obligations when they sell the property and transfer title to someone else.

Hawaiian Islands investigative reporter and columnist IAN LIND reports: “It’s probably going to take years to unravel the legal and financial uncertainty now facing condominium associations and law firms that used nonjudicial foreclosures — private sales without supervision by courts — to collect unpaid maintenance fees or other assessments prior to 2012.”

Harassment ▶ Social Current See

It is true that this video clip and story did not arise from a common interest development (aka HOA), but it rings true with regard to other stories about homeowners harassed, fined, and prosecuted for flag displays. Judicial Watch is representing Robert L. Rosebrock, a Vietnam-era veteran who faces federal criminal charges for displaying two four by six inch American flags outside a Veterans Affairs fence on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016.

MORE ▶ Harassment HOA style is now covered by a new Federal law.  Of course, as with any neighborhood dispute, the complainant has the burden of proof and such complaints are not always or easily voiced, much less won.

Chances are the hashtag #FEMA is not an internet search you would normally conduct or follow, unless you have a disaster recovery matter to cover.

And, in a related matter, January 17, 1994 seems like a distant searchable date, but the day is memorable around the world and in particular for California as the occurrence of the devastating Northridge Earthquake.  For homeowners around the TRILOGY of neighborhoods in the Temescal Valley, the Northridge Quake may be a distant memory, but it is a harbinger of events that may follow.  Many authorities, including seismologists, are predicting that California is overdue for another Northridge-type quake.  Question is: When and where will this happen across our 163,696 square miles (423,970 km)?

These questions are given some immediacy because, last week, on our Federal Capitol Hill, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) introduced the Disaster Assistance Support for Communities and Homeowners Act of 2017, H.R. 1684. This bill directs the Federa…
