Mile high HOA views

The creator and curator of ALTACITIES has an affinity for HOAs because he lives in one (the Inland Empire of Southern California), but he also has an affinity for Colorado, having spent the early part of a hospital development career in Denver (1972-1980). It is the state where both of our daughters were born and also where my wife, Dee Dee, was born and raised.

 Would probably still be living there today except for a career change that took us to Missouri and then California (since 1985).  But the career winded down with our 2010 retirement, so now we have far too much time on our hands to study the ways and means of surviving in this HOA world.

Caveats about HOA CC&Rs

Anyone who lives or has lived in a common interest development (aka homeowners association or HOA) has certain cognizance of the covenants, rules, and conditions (CC&Rs) of those "private government" communities.  Virtually every conflict that can and will arise in these locations is the result of CC&Rs that were initially drafted by the community developer and then perhaps altered or amended by the HOA attorneys.  Sometimes those changes need enabling legislation at the state level, but that is a whole different matter.  If the HOA lobby is not 100% behind those changes, the local HOA homeowner has little chance of effecting the change.
